titleTorre de La Rosaleda, the top of Ponferrada
locationPonferrada, Spain
infoPonferrada (from the Latin Pons Ferrata, translation: Iron Bridge) is the capital city of El Bierzo region, in the Province of León, Spain. Ponferrada lies in the Way of St. James, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Las Médulas, the most important gold mine (and largest open pit gold mine) in the entire Roman Empire, also included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site List, are only a few kilometers away from the city.
Ponferrada is also noted for its Castillo de los Templarios, a Templar castle which covers approximately 16,000 square meters. In 1178, Ferdinand II of León donated the city to the Templar order for protecting the pilgrims on the Way of St. James who passed through El Bierzo in their road to Santiago de Compostela.
Torre de la Rosaleda (translation: Tower of the Rose Garden) is a 107-meter tall building in La Rosaleda District of the city of Ponferrada, Spain. It is the tallest building in the city of Ponferrada and the 30th tallest of Spain.
