The Golden Horn is crossed by several bridges, most notably the Galata Bridge. The medieval citadel of Galata was a colony of the Republic of Genoa between 1273 and 1453. Lucas R "The medieval citadel of Galata was a colony of the Republic of Genoa" everything nice there was build by europeans, nothing by the turks  +6
Amen LOL Instanbul was build by Poles not europeans. Learn history. It's Polish/Turkish city.  +2
Lucas R the only turks did, was to put Minarets in a greek catedral  +3
Ṣalāḥ ad-Dīn Lucas R I completely I agree with you. The Turks have destroyed a lot of historic heritage. The things they did not destroy, they altered the history of and claimed as their own. Such as the so-called "Seljuk" tombstones of Ahlat (none of those tombstones, not a single one, belongs to Seljuks). They have submerged THOUSANDS of archaeological sites in the country's Kurdish regions (and plan to destroy more), they levelled OVER 2,000 Armenian churches and cathedrals, and they're currently in the process of confiscating all the historic belongings of the ancient Syriac people. When I went to Mardin and Amed (Kurdish cities in Turkey) last year, one of the bishops told me how the Turkish state was planning to take all their monasteries and churches. And what he said became reality earlier this year; most of their churches have now been confiscated. It's very depressing. History is being altered and the ancients are being marginalised and foricbily assimilated, and none  +1
Omar_Pa1 5/5 to the lovely city of Istanbul.  +12
Ṣalāḥ ad-Dīn One of the worst cities in the world. The people and its culture are the worst. Very few nice parts, most of Istanbul is a giant ghetto, with people littering and spitting on the ground everywhere. I guess it's a cultural thing. Extremists walking around everywhere, you can get a good night's sleep because mosques are blasting their prayers at night and early in the morning, when you're fucking sleeping! And so many ugly mosques... every 50 meters there is one. WORST. CITY. EVER.  +7
Ṣalāḥ ad-Dīn Correction: " can get..." should be CAN'T. And they've ruined most of historic Istanbul. Just look at the ugly "modern" buildings in the foreground of this banner.
sali_haci Istanbul would have been a nicer city if not for the Kurdish scum doing all you mentioned in your comment. :(  +2
SeMiX HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You're the biggest clown with a comment like this.:) I will visit my love and therapy-city: Istanbul soon again! Miss it. And Turkey chosen again in the top 3 travelers choice again.  +1
Ṣalāḥ ad-Dīn I have travelled all Kurdish inhabited countries of the Middle-East. In none of the Kurdish cities did I see such filth and moralless barbarity as in Istanbul and Ankara. The only Kurdish cities which were unmaintained and had ghettos in them, were located in Turkey (and for obvious reasons; the Kurdish regions are underdeveloped and destroyed on purpose by the Turkish state). The backwards Kurds I met were usually intermarried with Turks (mainly in the Adiyaman and Elazig region of historic Kurdistan) and most didn't even consider themselves "Kurds" anymore. I am not like you; I can be critical of my own people. I am not making shit up; anyone who has visited Istanbul will make the same observations. It's easy for you to blame it on the "Kurds", but I know it's a bullshit excuse because I have actually travelled beyond my attic.

Persian_Gulf terrible experience! Zero knowledge of English, no hospitality, rude airport staff, lots of traffic and air pollution, and taxi drivers are basically thieves when it comes to tourists. One night I even saw a woman being attacked by a dog close to Bebek, I will never forget that scene. Never again!! 1/5  +7
sali_haci Siktir git o zaman...  +2
treebeard3 You expect people to speak English everywhere you go? You go to someone's country learn their language. Get over yourself.  +2
SeMiX HAHAHAHAHAAHA, just laughing nothing more... See you soon again TURKEY!
Triple C Geçmiş olsun then.
Ṣalāḥ ad-Dīn Persian_Gulf couldn't agree more brother. One of my best travelling experiences was in Isfahan. Clean city, polite people, beautiful, ancient and authentic culture and identity (not stolen, like some others).
Persian_Gulf No wonder less and less Europeans visit Turkey. Without us tourists your whole economy will be broke. Racist people in general...
